I too have trouble growing even long varieties of carrots. Last year I was told by a farmer that you can't water them too much. They have to grow down in search of the water they need. I'm going to try planting them away from the drip irrigation this year - fingers crossed.
We also had a garden when I was growing up, and you’re right, carrots from the garden are nothing like what you find at the grocery store! I also loved eating fresh corn straight from the stalk. Not so much the shucking part, though- I was always so impatient with picking out all of the silk threads!

We planted carrots for the first time last year; and even though we got just a handful of tiny, knobbly ones, they were the sweetest! Lovely read!

I felt the same way when I pulled up my first few radishes the other day. So much gratitude for these smallest of joys.
So true Ashley...it;s been a wet spring but carrots are so reliable and that taste..and crunch...divine!
